Spring cleaning that’s actually a good time

-

Join cleaning parties and meet like-minded individuals in your community at two cleanup events — in Nanaimo and Sooke — taking place on Saturday.

• Join Green the Stream volunteers for a spring-cleaning of the Millstone River in the City of Nanaimo on Saturday.

This is an official Shoreline Clean Up event, hosted by the Nanaimo-Ladysmith Greens.

Since 2010, six cleanups in this site have removed 138 kilograms of trash from the environment.

Organizers are prepared for the safe collection and disposal of any syringes that might be found.

Bring garbage picking tongs if you have them. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies provided.

The event takes place 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Meet at the amphitheatre, near the duck pond, at Millstone River — Bowen Park, 500 Bowen Rd., Nanaimo. For more information, go to shorelinecleanup.ca/ cleanups/43p8z.

• Sign up to a team to help clean up the community at the Sooke Region Wide Community Clean Up on Saturday.

Teams are forming as residents enter into a friendly competition to ensure the area is spick and span prior to next week’s Sooke Region Earth Day Celebration.

You can sign up to clean in an area you choose.

The event runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. To register or learn more, contact Wendy O’Connor at wendyoconnor@me.com or phone 250-361-6965. To set up a local team, go to planetearthparty.blogspot.ca.
