RCMP seek help finding pair who vanished after docking boat in Ucluelet
RCMP are asking for assistance to help locate two missing men who disappeared after docking their boat in Ucluelet.
Mounties say Daniel Archibald, 37, and Ryan Daley, 43, docked their sailboat at Ucluelet on May 13. They were last seen walking away from Small Craft Harbour on May 16.
According to the Facebook page Find Dan and Ryan, the two men intended to hitchhike to Jordan River where Daley has a property.
News reports say Archibald lives in Squamish, is married and has two children. Daley has a brother in Victoria whom he likely intended to visit. The two men had just completed an eight-week sailing trip from Panama.
Archibald has strawberry blond hair with stubble on his face and an average build. He was last seen wearing a grey fleece, long-sleeve sweater, green pants and flip flop sandals. He was carrying a large “dry bag.”
Daley has short dark hair and was last seen wearing a grey baseball cap with a black logo. He was wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants that were possibly jeans, shoes, and carrying a large yellow/green backpack and a large white duffel bag with black accents.
A GoFundMe page has been established, aiming to raise $10,000 to aid search efforts.
Ucluelet dockmaster Kevin Cortes is the last person known to have seen them, on May 16. He said the men had paid for one month of moorage for their newly purchased boat, which they had bought in Panama.
“When they left, they had full packs, so they wouldn’t have been going hiking because they left with a lot of gear,” Cortes said. “I assumed they were going home, or at least in that direction.”
Archibald and Daley were healthy but tired after a long trip, Cortes said, adding there was nothing out of the ordinary about them during the three days they spent in Ucluelet.
There is video footage from the day they left the harbour and Cortes said he thinks they got a ride from someone in the harbour’s parking lot, but it’s out of camera range.
