Where is the plan for a sustainable future?

-

Canada has committed to the Paris Agreement, yet there is no plan presented as to how to meet those targets. The investment in Kinder Morgan is one of the biggest decisions concerning the fossil-fuel industry, resulting in more dependency on oil rather than getting away from it.

Throughout my career, I have never seen commitments made to new projects without a careful plan to follow step by step, to track its progress. Where is the plan and a way to follow progress toward commitments such as the Paris Agreement?

Without such a plan, time and time again current political powers have chosen to continue to maximize the extended future of oil dependency, without any measure of the progress toward the committed global targets.

Where is the counter-balance? Where are the investments to encourage people to choose alternatives to burning of fossil fuels, and the plan to create jobs in sustainable energy that can offer many more jobs than the fossil-fuel industry for the energy produced? Examples include conversion to electric cars, solar, wind energy and other sustainable natural energy forms that are readily available.

The target for a more sustainable future is simple and the costs to commit to a smaller eco footprint are nowhere near the fossil-fuel investments, tax breaks and subsidies that Canadians have been paying for many years.

We need visionary leaders with the courage to take a meaningful step into a sustainable future. The longer we wait, the bigger the disruption will be.
