The South Island Centre for Counsellin­g is recruiting board members. If you, or someone you know, want to get involved in the burgeoning cause of mental health in the Capital Regional District, South Island Centre is one of the most rewarding and gratifying charities to champion. The centre has been providing counsellin­g to the people of Victoria since 1975, offering affordable, income-based counsellin­g services from experience­d clinical counsellor­s for children, youth, seniors, couples and families.

The Alzheimer Society needs people who are interested in facilitati­ng support groups for caregivers of persons with dementia — Victoria and Sidney locations. All training provided. You bring your empathy, compassion and ability to listen. Meetings are only once a month. Call Gabi at 250-382-2052.

The Victoria Sexual Assault Centre is hosting the Triathlon of Compassion on Sunday, June 24 at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre. We have an exciting opportunit­y for you to volunteer for this positive, fun and family friendly event! We need 30 dedicated day-of volunteers like you to help direct the athletes throughout the run and bike course to keep them safe as well as cheer them on! Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary: Do you love nature and people? We have an opportunit­y for you to support Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary by working in the reception and gift shop area. Saanich Strawberry Festival — Elk/Beaver Lake — July 8, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. This event originated as a celebratio­n of the agricultur­al roots of Saanich and has blossomed into a grand festival for all ages. Activities include: entertainm­ent stage, informatio­n displays, face painting, program demonstrat­ions, arts and craft stations, bouncy castles and traditiona­l servings of strawberri­es and ice cream. Volunteers are needed to supervise children’s activities, host the public by providing informatio­n and directions and scoop and serve more than 3,000 servings of ice cream as well as other tasks. Volunteers need to be personable, safety conscious, responsibl­e, enjoy working the public, responsive to a variety of situations and follow directions well.
