Side by Side by Sondheim Performanc­e

July 13, Mary Winspear Centre Directed by Alan Corbishley and presented by Sound the Alarm: Music/Theatre (BC Living Arts), Side by Side by Sondheim showcases the composers most loved songs like ‘Send in the Clowns’, ‘You Could Drive a Person Crazy’, ‘Losing My Mind’ and ‘Being Alive’. With a unique look at this musical, Alan Corbishley has woven his own take on the list of songs which follows the lives of two couples and a single woman trying to navigate and understand love. The Vancouver cast will bring to life this fun, yet heart-wrenching look at contempora­ry life. Sidney Sculpture by the Sea

July 8 to Sept. 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily Sidney BIA, in collaborat­ion with the Mary Winspear Centre, Sidney Museum, and Vancouver Island Sculpture Guild, announce Sidney Sculpture by the Sea – a two-month contempora­ry sculpture display that features more than 30 artists and close to 100 pieces of art. “We are very excited to be able to create this event for Sidney and the Peninsula,” said Donna Petrie, Executive Director of the Sidney BIA. “There is so much talent here on Vancouver Island. We are delighted to be able to showcase some of it!” Sidney Sculpture by the Sea will open on July 8 at two different venues – the Mary Winspear Centre and the Sidney Museum – and runs through early September. Most of the work will be for sale. “This is a wonderful opportunit­y for residents and visitors to see a wide range of art from some of the best sculptors around,” says Fred Dobbs, President of the Vancouver Island Sculptors Guild. “We are so pleased that Sidney is mounting this special summer celebratio­n.” The summer show will highlight the many sculptures that line Sidney’s waterfront, Beacon Avenue and elsewhere around Town. These include the large unique collection of First Nations sculptures from artists across Canada housed at the Mary Winspear Centre.
