Trump’s lies, bullying keep snowbirds home

-

Re: “Trump blackmailing Canada and Mexico: ex-Mexican president,” June 28. For years, my husband and I have spent many winters as snowbirds visiting the U.S. But now we feel that as Canadians, we can no longer morally do that.

The comments of the U.S. president regarding how Canada, one of the Americans’ supposedly closest allies, is a security risk, and his continual insults to and about our prime minister really was the last straw.

We refuse to support a country and a leader who believe their amendments and so-called beliefs are more important than their babies. Children who are gunned down time after time in a supposedly safe environment is something that should not be tolerated.

Those are just two glimpses of the inhumane actions that are going on. Bullying, blackmail and lies are not tools to run a country, and that is what is happening now.

Not only do we refuse to support the U.S. travel-wise, we also make an effort not to buy any product that is sold or made in the U.S. We know that our very small contribution to this situation doesn’t make any difference to the revenues of that country, but it’s a moral decision we have made.

You often hear “God bless America” and “In God we trust” in the U.S. Let’s hope that God will do that for the U.S., because I’m guessing there are not many other countries who will “bless” or “trust” that man or that country. Bev Alexander Victoria
