Man accused of downtown assault spree

-

A man is facing several charges of assault after an incident Wednesday that began with him causing a disturbance at a Yates Street business, Victoria police say.

“We attended and he took off,” said Victoria police Const. Matt Rutherford.

The man was arrested shortly after outside the Richard Blanshard Building at Blanshard Street and Pandora Avenue.

“It appears, that in the process of going from the 800-block of Yates to the 1500-block of Blanshard, there were five victims of an assault,” said Rutherford. “All victims were random.”

Rutherford said the initial call came in about 10:30 a.m., and the suspect was in custody about 10 minutes later.

He said investigators are especially interested in talking to two females whom the suspect spoke to at the corner of Blanshard and Johnson streets.
