Early processing of post-dated cheques a result of human error: Royal Bank

-

About 1,700 post-dated cheques for Victoria property taxes were processed early, says RBC Royal Bank, the city’s banker.

As a result of human error, the cheques were processed June 28 instead of July 4, when tax payments were due, RBC spokesman Ian Colvin said.

The bank said it contacted as many people as possible to ensure they were aware their cheque had been inadvertently processed early. RBC also wanted to provide assistance if there were issues in terms of balances or other payments that might have been going out of an account, Colvin said

RBC has said it will reverse bank service charges, fees and overdraft interest if applicable, and will reimburse other Canadian financial institutions for banking charges incurred due to the error.

City spokesman Bill Eisenhauer praised the bank for its efforts in dealing with the mixup.
