Jays floored by Sox rally

- CHICAGO WHITE SOX 9 TORONTO 5 JOHN JACKSON

CHICAGO — Dramatic wins have been rare for the Chicago White Sox this season. Big crowds at Guaranteed Rate Field have been even rarer. Both elements combined Saturday to create an exciting atmosphere.

Pinch-hitter Daniel Palka gave Chicago the lead with a two-run single and Leury Garcia added a three-run triple in a six-run eighth, lifting the White Sox to a 9-5 comeback victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Garcia finished 2 for 4 with a career-high four RBIs. Yolmer Sanchez and Nicky Delmonico each homered for Chicago, which snapped a three-game losing streak before a crowd of 29,442 — the largest since Opening Day.

“It was cool, they were excited,” Chicago manager Rick Renteria said of the crowd. “I was happy to hear them get excited about something.”

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had two hits to extend his multihit streak to a Toronto record 10 games. Russell Martin also homered for the Blue Jays, who blew a 5-1 lead in a game in which they used all relievers.

“We came out scoring,” Jays manager John Gibbons said.

“Overall, we had the lead there and then it just imploded there late. It makes it tough when you get into those bullpen games, when you roll the dice, try to win the game, and if you don’t you’re probably screwed the next day with the pen.”

Jays’ Ryan Tepera (5-4) allowed four runs and didn’t retire a batter.
