By standers rushed to help Monday afternoon after a motorcycle and a car collided at Cook and View streets.

The motorcyclist ended up being sent to hospital in life-threatening condition and a person from the car was also hospitalized.

Victoria police spokesman Bowen Osoko said the crash occurred in heavy traffic just before 5 p.m. People calling in said it was a “very serious” collision, Osoko said.

Cook between Fort and Yates streets was closed for hours as police analyzed the scene.

“It’s too early to talk about cause, that’s what our collision-reconstruction team will determine,” Osoko said about an hour after the crash. “As you can see, the weather is good and it seems to be a relatively normal day, it’s not raining or anything like that.

“But we’ll be looking at all of the potential different factors here.”

Graham Dubé and others from Harris Victoria Dodge were among those who tried to assist the injured motorcyclist. Dubé has CPR training and said he was joined by an ex-army medic who happened to be in the area.

He said he was just getting ready to go home when he heard the commotion.

“I went and got the first-aid kit, got out there and did just about as much as I could,” he said. “When I did get out there, it was just anything to help.”

“Basically we rolled him over and gave him chest compressions, and tried to stabilize him until the paramedics got there.”

Dubé said he was glad he could help in some way.

“I got my first-aid at school, actually, and thank God.”

The dealership’s Mitch Lindsay saw the crash happen, started yelling “Call 911” and ran to the wreckage.

“I started to assess the scene because I was the first one on it.”

He gave a statement to police and directed traffic, he said.
