Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for aggravated assault in connection with a stabbing at a work site in Metchosin on Friday.

West Shore RCMP said a 58-year-old man received multiple stab wounds to his head, face, abdomen and hands in the incident.

He was listed in stable condition in hospital Saturday.

Const. Nancy Saggar said the two men used to work together and that the site where the stabbing occurred was familiar to both of them. She was unable to say whether they had worked together at that location.

The RCMP declined to identify the work site as investigators were still gathering evidence at the scene.

“We believe that this is an isolated incident,” Saggar said.

“I can tell you that this was a personal argument between these two individuals that then escalated into violence, so we don’t believe that there’s any risk to the public.”

Saggar said the man who was injured and a witness left the work site following the stabbing and drove to a parking lot in the 2100 block of Sooke Road in Colwood, where they called for help.

The B.C. Ambulance Service alerted police about 5:40 p.m. and officers arrived with paramedics to find the bleeding man in his pickup truck.

Despite his injuries, the man was conscious and alert and able to assist police, Saggar said.

“While ambulance services was delivering first aid, we were asking questions … and the suspect was identified by the victim.”

Saggar said the suspect turned himself in Friday evening and was arrested without incident.

He remained in custody Saturday awaiting his first court appearance.

Saggar said other witnesses have come forward since the incident and she asked anyone with information to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
