OAK BAY MAYOR

Infrastructure Housing Safety Like many communities Oak Bay has aging infrastructure. Steady experienced leadership is required to maintain our vigorous momentum of renewal. We have already invested millions in upgrades and must continue to do so using grants/reserves to avoid tax spikes. I will continue efforts to find affordable housing options while protecting our neighbourhoods. I will advocate for the optimum balance between community police and fire resources and maximizing efficiencies.

One big idea:

Making the public lands adjoining our main recreation centre on Bee Street available for affordable rental housing.

PLAN: Regulations that guide development allowing for smart housing options BUILD: We need to fix our roads, sidewalks, and pipes starting today, and we need to be far more fiscally responsible to accomplish that. FOSTER: We need to change the culture of Council to focus on results, and decisions that unite rather than divide the community Other urgent issues: reduce the deer population, restore elder care to Oak Bay Lodge

One big idea:

Oak Bay needs clear guidelines for development. Currently it's an ad-hoc political process with little in the way of guidelines for staff, builders, owners, or neighbours. Innovate housing can't get built at all, and larger developments have wildly inconsistent decisions applied. The current process is dividing the community, creating uncertainty, and driving up costs. No one would build a home without a blueprint: we need to finish the OCP and create the blueprint to guide our future.
