Colwood Crawl should not be a surprise

-

Re: “Is the Colwood Crawl driving you crazy?” column, Nov. 8.

Why are so many people surprised this situation is taking place?

View Royal and Esquimalt each took major four-lane roads and made them into two-lane roads, Victoria replaced a main bridge and did not replace the rail line on it. Build, build, build and build some more in the West Shore (did I say build enough?), with more to come (i.e. Colwood Corners et al).

The premier says there is no business case to upgrade the E&N rail line while at the same time the Capital Regional District and others continue to install safety equipment on rustedout railway crossings, and people wonder why the traffic is so bad.

When my wife and I were househunting last fall and winter, we looked at View Royal, Colwood and Langford for about three minutes and thought nope; not going to happen, based on traffic concerns alone.

We moved from New Westminster and now live in North Saanich and are very happy for it. Just recently a developer pulled plans off the table for that Sidney property near the airport — good. The Canadian Tire grand opening here in Sidney — we did not really need it. There are lots of quality local businesses already.

I look forward to seeing the McKenzie interchange project finished, but is it really going to solve things or simply move the problem?
