Christmas Tree Rentals at the Fickle Fig

- theficklefig.ca

T his year, the Fickle Fig is offering an environmentally friendly alternative to buying a Christmas tree — they are renting out trees that can be used year after year. Though they’re just about out of rentable trees this year, they plan to rent out even more next year. It’s refreshing to see a business looking for innovative new ways to be environmentally conscious.

Renting out the Christmas trees is a pilot project. Even though there’s a limited supply this year, they would like to make this an annual tradition. After three or four years of decorating homes, the rented trees will be planted on the Fickle Fig Farm property.

Fickle Fig Farm has a year-round farmers market, bakery and bistro where they use their own produce and ingredients with an added Italian flair to produce their food fare. They believe in sustainable farming and only use what is in season. With an aim to build community whenever possible, they provide a gathering place for farmers, artisans and community members.

The Fickle Fig folks are currently working on a brewery that will include seasonal beers using ingredients, including the hops, grown on site.

Thir market is situated on ALR land, and for the first time since the 30s, houses farm animals including rabbits, piglets and a trio of miniature goats — employed as the welcoming committee.
