-

MACKENZIE VAUGHAN HOSPITAL, ALONGSIDE MACKENZIE RICHMOND HILL HOSPITAL AND ITS COMMUNITY-BASED LOCATIONS, WILL CARE FOR ONE OF CANADA’S FASTEST GROWING AND DIVERSE COMMUNITIES. TOGETHER, THEY WILL PROVIDE THE ULTIMATE IN HEALTH CARE FOR PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

If you’ve driven up the 400 recently, you’d be hard-pressed to miss the building going up across from Canada’s Wonderland. Mackenzie Health is transforming the way health care is provided to the communities of Vaughan, Richmond Hill and King. After all, these communities deserve the ultimate in health care. Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital – Canada’s first smart hospital and the first net new hospital in York Region in more than 30 years – will be a place where technology and information will be used to anticipate the needs of patients and health care providers, and identify health issues before they become serious.

Guided by the patient experience, research shows a positive link between healing environments and patient outcomes. This patient-centred design has been incorporated into every level, program and service at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, including:

Integrated technology in patient rooms, such as bedside tablets, to give patients access to personalized health information, including tailored educational videos directly for their specific needs, prescribed medication and a discharge checklist.

Safety by design is thoughtfully integrated into the Mental Health Inpatient Unit. This unit provides safe and compassionate care to support patients in their recovery and return to home, when they’re ready.

Medical and surgical inpatient rooms support a calming stay with large windows for natural light and bright outdoor views, and dedicated family and visitor space to connect and gather.

A one-stop suite of services, accessible by a dedicated elevator, to fully support women and children through some of life’s most poignant moments – from pregnancy and delivery, to neonatal and pediatric care.

The latest in dialysis care in the Carlo and Angela Baldassarra Family Inpatient Dialysis Unit. Dialysis treatment will be delivered in bright and accessible spaces designed to meet a patient’s health needs. For example, patients with complex needs can receive dialysis at bedside and for others, the option of open treatment areas. Inspired by wellness, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital’s courtyards, gardens, walkways and bike pa areas to gather and peaceful spaces for patients to heal, reflect and plan for the future.

Recovery and rehabilitation for patients who have had a stroke is the focus of the Sorbara Integrated Stroke Unit (part of the Sorbara District Stroke Centre for York Region). A rehabilitation gym with direct access to natural light also supports patients on their road to recovery.
