Toronto Life

WFH WTF

-

Some readers were peeved about our piece on Torontonians working from home, carving out makeshift offices in attics, alcoves and basements.

“I usually love reading Toronto Life but just noticed you did an article about prominent people in Toronto working from home. This is absolutely horrible when we’re in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Over a million people lost their jobs in the month of March alone! What was the point you were trying to make with this piece?”

“This was the best cross-section you could come up with across our city? The president of Manulife, director of Google Canada, partner in a law firm? How about the many lower-income people who are also working from home? This is hardly a reality of how ordinary Torontonians are coping. Tens of thousands are unemployed.

Yet nothing about them.”

“Damn. People are angry about this. Why? It’s an article about these people. When it’s an article about other people, it will be about other people. Very simple rules to this. Toronto Life doesn’t exist to solely make you happy. I am WFH and it looks and feels nothing like this, but who cares? Not looking for an article to validate the struggle and neither should you.”
