The man and his mission in Canada

-

In his two-day, two-night visit of Canada, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to achieve some key breakthroughs, including uranium supply from Cameco Corp. Uranium It is likely that Modi will clinch a fuel supply agreement with Cameco, Canada’s biggest uranium producer. In his interactions before leaving India, he said that getting a commercial supply of uranium from Canada is a major goal for him. “We look forward to resuming our civil nuclear energy cooperation with Canada, especially for sourcing uranium fuel for our nuclear power plants,” Modi posted on his Facebook page late last week. Business pact Indian and Canadian negotiators are working overtime to iron out differences in a long-stalled foreign investment protection pact in time for Modi’s visit, Reuters reported. The agreement, which seeks to protect legal rights of Canadian and Indian investors doing business, is yet to be ratified even though negotiations concluded in 2007. India is reportedly concerned about some provisions that allow a foreign investor to sue the host country at an international dispute settlement agency. Investment and infrastructure development The Indian prime minister is scheduled to meet Canadian bank and pension fund managers in Toronto in efforts to attract capital for infrastructure development in the subcontinent.

He is also expected to try to woo entrepreneurs, businesses to invest more in India under his ‘Make in India’ campaign.

In Germany on Sunday, Modi urged business leaders to start manufacturing in India, saying his government was slashing regulations and reducing red tape so companies could work there.
