What’s open and closed on Canada Day

Whether you’re planning to relax on a hump day off, or hit the town on July 1, here’s a look at what will be open and closed on Canada Day.

Banks and government offices

Banks and government offices will be closed. Canada Post will not be collecting or delivering mail, but some post offices operated by the private sector will be open.

Transit

TTC will operate on holiday service, GO Transit on a Saturday schedule.

Libraries

All branches of the Toronto Public Library will be closed.

Malls

The Eaton Centre will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Square One will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also open on the holiday are Hillcrest Mall, Pacific Mall and Vaughan Mills. The Yorkdale Shopping Centre will be closed.

Grocery stores

Loblaws locations will mostly be closed, with the exception of its flagship store at 60 Carlton St. All 24-hour locations for Metro will be closing at 11 p.m. Tuesday, with most locations closed Canada Day. All stores will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, including 24-hour ones. For a complete list of locations that will stay open, check its site. Sobeys and No Frills will be closed for Canada Day.

LCBO and Beer Stores

All stores closed.

Museums and attraction­s

The Toronto Zoo, Ripley’s Aquarium, Royal Ontario Museum and Canada’s Wonderland will be open. Wonderland is one of several locations in the GTA where you can catch fireworks Wednesday evening. The Art Gallery of Ontario will be closed. Movie theatres and many restaurant­s will be open, but it’s worth checking ahead to be sure your favourite spot is doing business.
