Meet the most average Canadians you’ll ever find — Michael and Jennifer. The Star compiled information from Statistics Canada and a wide variety of polls conducted by public and private institutions to develop (admittedly unscientific) profiles of a man and woman who embody Canadians’ most prevalent characteristics.

Canada, meet Michael:

He is 40, he likes to use the word “eh” and he believes in love at first sight. He’s an overweight truck driver who earns just over $48,000 a year. He likes to drink beer, but wouldn’t turn down a glass of wine — in fact, he swallowed more than 17 litres of wine last year.

He has never been inside an igloo, but he has tried his hand at canoeing. And, as a Canadian, Michael believes it is important not only to know how to captain a canoe, but how to have sex in one, too.

English is Michael’s first language. He is Christian, married and had his first child at 28. He likes to dine out and spent more than $2,200 on restaurant bills last year.

Michael is an outdoors bloke and once spotted a beaver in the wild.

Canada, meet Jennifer.

The 42-year-old mother loves a good hockey game and once gave online dating a whirl.

She believes tuques are “the most-Canadian” item of clothing available.

Jennifer has a university degree and earns $32,000 a year working in retail. She is reasonably fit, but slightly overweight.

Jennifer says she has never experienced love at first sight.

She is a traditional, faithful wife and strongly patriotic.

Jennifer lives an urban lifestyle, but loves the outdoors and riding snowmobiles in winter.

She is satisfied with her sex life, trusting of her neighbours and active in her community.

She spends more than six hours every day with her family and will likely live until she is at least 84. Sources: Statistics Canada, Ipsos Reid, Service Ontario, Match.com, Playtex.
