Police resist accountability
Re Police chief defends limitations for body
cams, Sept. 12 It’s not hard to understand why police Chief Mark Saunders wants to prevent the use of body cameras in non-arrest encounters between the police and the public. To allow their use during “carding” encounters, a practice he supports, the citizenry might find out what the police actually say and do when accosting someone who has committed no crime and has been “randomly” chosen for attention.
By now it should be clear that Toronto can’t expect this new police chief to support any enlightened policies that might make the police force more accountable to the people they are supposed to protect. John Connolley, Aurora, Ont.
