Putin up to his old tricks

-

Re Russians aiding Syria in fight against ISIS, Sept. 11 Why is Vladimir Putin in Syria now?

It’s all very clear. If the Western coalition forces succeed in turning the war while Bashar Assad is vulnerable, the political outcomes in Syria will more likely be dictated by the U.S. and not Russia. The U.S. will then play the energy card and push for a pipeline westward from Saudi Arabia and Qatar through Syria into the European Union (EU) and Russia’s Gazprom’s energy monopoly in the EU will be toast — and the Russian Federation will go bankrupt, just like the U.S.S.R. did in 1991.

Putin is in a panic and has to put aside Ukrainian aggression and place his pet war in Ukraine on simmer for now.

Watch for Russian-funded terrorists, who will start blowing up energy pipelines in the Middle East or cause small-scale conflicts/ skirmishes around the Persian Gulf in an effort to boost the price of oil. It’s designed to save Putin and the Russian economy, like we saw in the 1970s.

Nothing is new in geopolitics. Walter Derzko, Toronto
