Labour Party fixture Healey dead at 98

-

Denis Healey, a dexterous British socialist politician with a fierce intellect and combative style who used leadership positions such as secretary of state for defence to downsize his country’s empire by militarily retreating from Asia in the 1960s and accepting harsh terms for an international loan in the 1970s, died Saturday at his home after a short illness, his family said. He was 98.
