Falling for sci-fi, espionage and financial planning

YANNICK BISSON

Yannick Bisson, the star of Murdoch Mysteries, reveals the three books that most influenced him.

DUNE BY FRANK HERBERT

At about the age of 12, I read a bunch of books that were recommended to me by my stepdad. He knew that I loved science fiction so one of the first ones was Dune by Frank Herbert. I was completely enthralled by so many aspects of the book and to my surprise, not the spacecrafts. The worlds and their inhabitants were described in such vivid detail, boils and all.

THE BOURNE IDENTITY BY ROBERT LUDLUM

The Bourne Identity came a little while later. That was a home run for me. Ludlum let the reader into the parallel world of spies, covert government operations and lethal combat. The way he set the stage for the action made me realize how little of the world I had seen at that point.

RICH DAD, POOR DAD BY ROBERT KIYOSAKI

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki was something I read much later on in life. It was a wake-up call. I’d read many financial coaching books at the behest of my father (God love him for trying to help me long term). Kiyosaki was able to bring it home for me with real-life, first-hand comparisons.

Small shifts in thinking could really create attainable results and put you in the driver’s seat of life.
