Typhoon Mu­ji­gae hits Guang­dong

As­trong typhoon roared into Guang­dong province and the re­sort is­land of Hainan on Sun­day, bring­ing pow­er­ful winds and heavy rain af­ter leav­ing one dead and 30 fish­er­men miss­ing in the Philip­pines. Nearly 200,000 peo­ple were evac­u­ated be­fore Typhoon Mu­ji­gae — “rain­bow” in Korean — made land­fall near Zhan­jiang just af­ter 2 p.m. Five hours later its cen­tre was 460 kilo­me­tres west of Hong Kong and mov­ing steadily in­land. The Na­tional Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Cen­tre warned as much as 280 mil­lime­tres of rain could fall in some places. As of Sun­day evening, there were no re­ports of in­juries.
