Cineplex to screen live Hamlet performanc­es

Benedict Cumberbatc­h portrays the gloomy Dane

The tickets to see Benedict Cumberbatc­h’s star turn in Hamlet on the London stage sold out in a mere three minutes. Another 30,000 people were in the queue.

Now, Canadians will get to see what all the fuss is about on Oct. 15 when the National Theatre play is broadcast live at select Cineplex Theatres. There will be encore performanc­es Nov. 7, 8, 9 and 11.

One of the hottest actor of his generation, Cumberbatc­h has also por- trayed detective Sherlock Holmes, WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange and has an upcoming film as Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein in the works.

He has received rave reviews for his portrayal of the gloomy Danish prince in Shakespear­e’s well-known play running for12 weeks. It is directed by Lyndsey Turner and produced by Sonia Friedman Production­s.

Other actors who have previously tackled the role include Mel Gibson, Keanu Reeves, Jude Law, Daniel Day Lewis and Richard Burton.
