Cine­plex to screen live Ham­let per­for­mances

Bene­dict Cum­ber­batch por­trays the gloomy Dane

The tick­ets to see Bene­dict Cum­ber­batch’s star turn in Ham­let on the Lon­don stage sold out in a mere three min­utes. Another 30,000 peo­ple were in the queue.

Now, Cana­di­ans will get to see what all the fuss is about on Oct. 15 when the Na­tional Theatre play is broad­cast live at se­lect Cine­plex The­atres. There will be encore per­for­mances Nov. 7, 8, 9 and 11.

One of the hottest ac­tor of his gen­er­a­tion, Cum­ber­batch has also por- trayed de­tec­tive Sher­lock Holmes, Wik­iLeaks editor Ju­lian As­sange and has an up­com­ing film as Bea­tles’ man­ager Brian Ep­stein in the works.

He has re­ceived rave re­views for his por­trayal of the gloomy Dan­ish prince in Shake­speare’s well-known play run­ning for12 weeks. It is di­rected by Lyn­d­sey Turner and pro­duced by So­nia Fried­man Pro­duc­tions.

Other ac­tors who have pre­vi­ously tack­led the role in­clude Mel Gib­son, Keanu Reeves, Jude Law, Daniel Day Lewis and Richard Bur­ton.
