The ro­ta­tor cuff com­prises four mus­cles that as­sist with arm move­ment and shoul­der sta­bil­ity. Strong ex­ter­nal ro­ta­tors (the mus­cles that keep your shoul­ders down and back) are par­tic­u­larly im­por­tant be­cause they help pre­vent the most com­mon ro­ta­tor cuff is­sue, known as im­pinge­ment of the supraspina­tus ten­don.
