Coyotes send Strome back to Erie Otters, Bruins sign Gustavsson
The Arizona Coyotes have assigned centre Dylan Strome to Erie of the OHL after their first-round pick from this year’s draft made a strong push for a roster spot.
Arizona used the third overall pick in the 2015 draft on Strome, behind No. 1 pick Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Jack Eichel of the Sabres.
The Coyotes are undergoing a youth movement and Strome was impressive during camp, but they decided to send him back to his junior team to gain more experience. MONSTER DEAL: The Boston Bruins signed backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson to a one-year, $700,000 (U.S.) deal on Sunday.
The former Red Wings and Maple Leafs goalie is expected to back up Tuukka Rask.
Gustavsson, 30, has appeared in 148 NHL games, posting a 60-55-21 record with a 2.89 goals against average and .901 save percentage.
Rask played 70 games last season, and the Bruins have said they are hoping to develop a dependable backup to cut the starter’s workload. TOMAS STICK WITH HABS: Forward Tomas Fleischmann and the Montreal Canadiens agreed to a one-year contract reportedly worth $750,000.
The 31-year-old Fleischmann played 66 games with the Florida Panthers and Anaheim Ducks in 2014-15, scoring eight times and adding 19 assists.
Fleischmann was invited as a professional try out to the Canadiens’ training camp. He appeared in four pre-season games, scoring once and adding two assists.
