ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Argonauts will trek to Hamilton for home games if Jays need Rogers Centre

- Curtis Rush

The Toronto Argonauts, the CFL’s accidental tourists, are planning to relocate their next home game Oct. 17 to Hamilton.

It all depends on the Blue Jays and how far they go in the baseball playoffs. The Jays opened their best-offive American League Division Series against the Texas Rangers on Thursday at the Rogers Centre.

The Argos announced contingency plans on Thursday to play the Calgary Stampeders at Tim Hortons Field a week from this Saturday.

If the Jays’ playoff hopes are extinguished early, the Boatmen would be back at the Rogers Centre for Oct. 17, Argonauts CEO Chris Rudge said.

If the Blue Jays extend their playoff run, the Argos are working on contingency plans to move their Oct. 23 home game against the Montreal Alouettes to Hamilton as well.

Those plans are not final, Rudge said.

With two “home” games planned for Hamilton, it would raise the possibility of the Argos playing as many games at Tim Hortons Field this season (three) than they have played at the Rogers Centre.

The Argonauts, of course, are no strangers to being relocated. They had their first “home” game in June bounced to Fort McMurray, Alta., due to scheduling conflicts with the Pan Am Games.

When it became apparent that the Blue Jays would make the post-season, the Argos arranged to relocate this week’s home game to Ottawa. The Argo won both “home” games. “We will communicate the appropriate details as early as possible once a decision is made,” Rudge said in a statement. “Again, we thank everyone for their continued support and patience during this unusual time and we wish the Blue Jays well on their playoff journey.”

Fans with tickets to the Oct. 17 game will be contacted by a Toronto Argonauts ticket representative in the near future, Rudge said.
