Ac­tor Doug Len­nox dead at 77

Vet­eran Cana­dian char­ac­ter ac­tor Doug Len­nox has died. His man­age­ment says Len­nox died in his sleep on Nov. 28, age 77.

Len­nox was born in Sud­bury, Ont., and left school at 16 to sup­port his fam­ily when his fa­ther died sud­denly. Af­ter a mil­i­tary ca­reer that in­cluded ser­vice in the Gaza Strip, Len­nox worked as a bar­tender, type­writer sales­man, pri­vate eye and model in Toronto be­fore tak­ing up ra­dio at CKAR ra­dio in Huntsville, Ont., and CBC in Toronto.

His act­ing ca­reer in­cluded var­i­ous TV and movie parts, in­clud­ing Po­lice Acad­emy and X-Men. Len­nox was also a ra­dio pro­ducer.

“He worked with ev­ery­one you can imag­ine, from Mary Tyler Moore to Holly Hunter to Hugh Jackman, but no one was more in­ter­est­ing to him than the last per­son he met in line at the bank,” said for­mer agent Jonathan Le­Claire. Star staff
