Game of Thrones star calls for equal-opportunity nudity,
Game of Thrones star wants men to bare as much as she does on the popular HBO fantasy show
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has unzipped some social media support for her challenge to the HBO show’s writers to give equal time to male nudity.
“Free the penis,” she quipped during recent appearances on The Late Late Show With James Corden and Conan O’Brien’s Conan, sparking an instant Twitter reaction with the hashtag #FreeTheP.
Clarke plays Mother of Dragons, Queen Daenerys Targaryen on the fantasy series, which launches its sixth season April 24. The British actress has had her share of nude scenes and figures it’s time more male members of the cast came forward.
“I feel like there’s a little bit of inequality between the amount of nudity that happens with women — this woman, in particular — and what happens with the other guys. I just think that it should be even,” Clarke told Corden.
“She’s talking about Game of Bones!” quipped O’Brien’s sidekick, Andy Richter.
“I think it is a discussion that should be had,” Clarke told O’Brien. She laughed as she admitted her mom wasn’t thrilled with her full-frontal equal rights campaign.
But do we really want to see the actors’ dangly bits, Corden protested, noting that more than one character hasn’t even got anything to flash? “I just feel like penises are so disgusting,” he said.
“You’re wrong,” chorused Clarke and fellow guests, Broad City stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer.
It’s not like Clarke hasn’t seen it all before, reminding the audience that when the guys flash a bare backside onscreen, those on set “get to see everything” that the camera doesn’t capture.
So far, there has been no response from HBO or Game of Thrones producers.
