The Hammer is in sync

-

Re Sync lights and ease gridlock, Letter Sept. 26 Having lived in Toronto for more that 40 years, traffic flow has always been an issue: too many stop signs and traffic signals, bus stops that could easily have been moved around a corner to allow clearance for vehicle traffic, etc.

We moved to Oakville 10 years ago and there are very few traffic issues. Having said that, driving in Hamilton is a breeze and has been forever.

It has two major roads going east and west, and several major north and south intersections. Hamilton has managed to synchronize their traffic signals and you can drive right through much of the city without stopping.

You would think that Toronto, in this day and age of technology, could accomplish the same thing. Lesley Grace, Oakville

Having long been a proponent of synchronized traffic lights and the full-time utilization of left-turn green arrows for at least 10 seconds to both ease traffic and stop red-light running, I would also point out that not having to make ever-frequent stops would reduce air pollution and increase gas mileage.

It’s a win-win policy.
