Roots: Grew up in Antigonish, N.S. Came to Yukon in 1996. Age: 47 Personal: Single Education: Degrees in math and psychology from Saint Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia; bachelor of education from the University of Maine. Career before politics: Math teacher. Has worked with First Nations teacher education programs and youth and restorativ­e justice programs. Political career: First elected to Yukon Assembly in 2011. Chosen party leader in February 2014. Other activities: Plays guitar, drums and sings. Has performed with many Yukon bands. Quote: “The way that we’ve structured the party fit perfectly for what Yukon needs — a moderate government, a government that allows membership from the left and from the right, consensus-building, actually having a party that models the mosaic of this territory.”
