Davis and White pass on 2018 Games

NEW YORK— Meryl Davis and Charlie White won’t be defending their Olympic ice dance gold medal in South Korea. The Sochi champions haven’t competed for three seasons, so their announcement Wednesday wasn’t a total surprise, but their decision — and the return to competition of Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir — leaves a tall order for their successors: Maia and Alex Shibutani, the two-time American champions and current world runners-up, and Madison Chock and Evan Bates.
