Canadian theatre vets join Come From Away
Cast of T.O. return includes Lisa Horner, Barbara Fulton
Come From Away is coming back to Toronto in February with a mostly all-Canadian cast, including seasoned musical theatre veterans Lisa Horner and Barbara Fulton.
The show returns to the Royal Alexandra Theatre on Feb. 13, where it played to sold-out audiences in winter 2016-17.
Dora-winner Horner is currently starring in the Stratford Festival production of H.M.S. Pinafore. She’ll play Gander, N.L., resident Beulah in Come From Awaywhile Fulton, a jazz artist and Stratford Festival veteran, will play airplane passenger Diane.
The lead role of pilot Beverley Bass, for which Jenn Colella won a Dora Award and a Tony Award nomination, will be played by Eliza-Jane Scott, a musical theatre vet also known for TV roles, including Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Other cast members include Young People’s Theatre veteran Saccha Dennis as passenger Hannah; Steffi DiDomenicantonio, a former Canadian Idol finalist, as Gander reporter Janice; James Kall, seen in Toronto’s Kinky Boots, as passenger Nick; opera and musical theatre vet George Masswohl as Mayor Claude; Ali Momen, who starred in Deepa Mehta’s Beeba Boys, and Massachusettsborn Broadway actor Jack Noseworthy as stranded couple Kevin and Kevin; Stratford Festival actor Cory O’Brien as police constable Oz; another Kinky Boots vet, Kristen Peace, as SPCA worker Bonnie and Second City comedian Kevin Vidal as passenger Bob.
Alternate cast members include Jeff Madden, best known for a Toronto productions of Jersey Boys; Kinky Boots actors Susan Dunstan and David Silvestri; Kate Etienne (Theatre New Brunswick); Amir Haidar (Young People’s Theatre) and Cailin Stadnyk (TV’s Supernatural).
Come From Away continues to enjoy capacity crowds during an openended run at New York’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. It garnered seven Tony Award nominations, landing one for director Christopher Ashley, who will oversee the Canadian production. It also won three Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical, and three Dora Awards, including Outstanding New Musical.
