Who wouldn’t favour Trudeau over Trump?

Re Blinded by PM’s sunny ways, U.S. media fail

the public, July 27 So Vinay Menon believes the U.S. media has failed the public in its portrayal of Trudeau.

First of all, Rolling Stone magazine caters to its primarily left-wing liberal readership. Secondly, compared to Trump, Trudeau is a rock star!

Let’s face it, the reason Americans lionize Trudeau is because the man is not an egomaniacal lying narcissist. Trudeau is a normal nice guy in touch with the times, marching in Pride parades, loving his family, working out and representing the average Canadian. He is an OK and decent sort of person.

For example, recently Trump declared transgender people unfit for military duty. Juxtapose this with our happy prime minister marching in Pride parades across Canada. What right-thinking liberal wouldn’t choose Trudeau over Trump?

As for Trudeau’s shortcomings, they aren’t personal. He’s in a big, challenging job where often goals are not met because one must manage the expecta- tions of Canadians. Again, compare this to Trump, where anything goes on any day, including family members possibly collaborating with enemy governments.

Let’s be thankful we have Trudeau, because the alternative is frightening. Margaret Mercer, Oakville Bravo to Vinay Menon for injecting a dose of reality into the dysfunctional coverage our prime minister still receives from U.S. media, balancing the U.S. sycophancy with a catalogue of Justin Trudeau’s policy failings.

Bad as they are, some can be rationalized as “We are working very hard on this and of course we can always do more” (dithering on Indigenous crises) or “We’re dealing with big economic problems” (blowing through taxpayer dollars).

But the issue that will haunt the PM is the broken promise on electoral reform: a complete reversal on a clear commitment that betrays the cynicism and hypocrisy lurking just below the surface.

See you at the polls, Justin. Victor Foyle, Toronto
