Rocking the boat, dancing the dusk
Camp Wavelength sets sail, dance is a walk in the park and Kultura takes Kensington
Camp Cruise Watch this if: You love live music and the open seas (or lake).
Usually, the Camp Wavelength music festival is the much-anticipated chance for Torontonians to camp out on the Toronto Islands and catch some impressive shows from local bands. But this summer, the weather gods had other plans. While Camp Wavelength had to move ashore for next week’s festival, Wavelength Camp Cruise is taking to the water for a pre-party. In partnership with Red Bull Sound Select, Camp Cruise will invite passengers (19 and over) on board with artists like Cadence Weapon, Greys and Pony.
Aug. 11 aboard the River Gambler, docked at 333 Lake Shore Blvd. E., Pier 31. Dusk Dances Watch this if: You think indoor dance is for any season but summer.
It’s hard not to feel that the end of summer is nigh. And it’s more pronounced since the weather has been . . . not great. But before we’re forced to find entertainment indoors, Dusk Dances returns to Withrow Park for its 23rd edition. The outdoor dance festival presents five new 10-minute pieces that pop up around the park, taking inspiration from social justice, the traditional Quebec “gigue,” animalism and the Dusk Dances community itself. August 7-13, Withrow Park, 725 Logan Ave. Kultura Filipino Arts Festival Watch this if: You want a quick trip across the Pacific.
With humble beginnings as a Kensington Market barbecue, this annual celebration of Filipino arts and culture has grown into a multi-day, multi-venue, interdisciplinary festival. Now in its 12th year, the 2017 edition takes over Daniels Spectrum and Kensington Market once again with art installations, a book preview, performances, a street-food competition and a marketplace.
