Party, panic and a podcast

SZA also comes to town with show that sold out in minutes

Party Today, Panic Tomorrow Watch this if: You’d rather stay up late laughing, if you can’t sleep anyway. So the world is pretty crap right now, right? It is. We know it is. Hibernating in our homes and hiding under our blankets might be tempting. But save at least one night for the new mainstage revue at Second City, Party Today, Panic Tomorrow, which will mix your real tears with tears of laughter. It might even brighten your mood enough to go out to a protest or call your local MP.

Until Jan. 2, 2018, Second City Toronto, 51 Mercer St. Jay and Silent Bob Get Old Watch this if: You like success stories and stoner comedy.

The iconic duo behind Jay and Silent Bob, the princes of ’90s stoner comedy in films such as Clerks and Mallrats, have aged, obviously. That’s clear in the title of their podcast, Jay and Silent Bob Get Old, which is coming to Toronto for a live recording this week. But with age come particular hurdles, like addiction and the struggle for sobriety, which inspired the podcast in the first place. Jason Mewes (Jay) has used the show to talk about his path to recovery, while getting up to the usual antics with Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) along the way. Smith will also do one of his signature Q&As, An Evening with Kevin Smith, before the podcast taping. Friday, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, 190 Princes’ Blvd. SZA Watch this if: You already have tickets.

All right, all right. Tickets for this show sold out in minutes, even after it moved from the Phoenix to the much larger Rebel venue (formerly known as Sound Academy). So unless you’re one of the lucky ticketholders or you’re willing to unload your paycheque on StubHub, you might have to wait until her next trip to Toronto to hear her hit debut album Ctrl live. I guess you could always check out Kendrick Lamar as a consolation prize, who’s playing the Air Canada Centre on the same night.

Wednesday, Rebel, 11 Polson St. #1
