Liona Boyd tells of sex harassment

-

Classical guitarist Liona Boyd is coming forward with her own stories of sexual harassment in Hollywood.

The five-time Juno Award winner says she wants to support the actresses who have recently gone public about their encounters with Har

vey Weinstein, the fallen movie mogul facing a growing number of sexual harassment and assault allegations.

In a social-media post, Boyd says she became familiar with Hollywood’s “casting couch mentality” in the 1970s and 1980s and adds that declining the advances of men in the industry likely led to losing opportunities to appear on the TV series The Love Boat and perform at the White House with Frank Sinatra.

She also says a director “lunged” at her during a meeting about using her music in his film; another offered her an acting role if she agreed to have sex with him.

Boyd says she decided to return to Toronto instead of forging a career in Los Angeles because “the price became too evident.”

Weinstein’s wife, Georgina Chapman, has told People magazine she is leaving her husband.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts said Wednesday that Weinstein was informed "that his membership has been suspended, effective immediately”; meanwhile, the University at Buffalo is moving to have its alumnus Weinstein’s honorary degree revoked.
