Re Canada pushes coal phase-out at climate

talks, Nov. 13 Over the years, many of us said if we ended coal-fired generation in our own country we would have the moral authority to push for its elimination internationally. It’s very encouraging to see Canada acting on this basis today, urging other nations to abandon this climate-destructive fuel.

It’s also important to remember our coal phase-out process began in Ontario, which shuttered its last plant in 2014. If there’s now an initiative to reject coal worldwide, we owe a vote of thanks to our own province. Gideon Forman, Toronto
