Carlos Beltran announced his retirement at age 40, after capping a 20year playing career with his first World Series title with the Houston Astros. Writing on The Players’ Tribune, the nine-time all-star outfielder thanked fans and cited winning the Roberto Clemente Award for humanitari­an work as his greatest feat. The 1999 AL rookie of the year was among the best switch-hitters in MLB history with 435 home runs, 1,587 RBIs and 312 stolen bases, to go with three Gold Glove awards.
