Voters need clear info on party positions

Re Make all votes count to cure voter apathy,

Letters, Feb. 28 Letter-writer Troy Sidarous hit the nail on the head for why all people should want to vote, despite whatever voting system we have: “There are massive issues facing my generation, from climate change to social equality.”

People vote because they are aware of the issues facing our society and want to ensure that our society will prosper as a town, province or country. If people do not understand what is at stake, and/or feel they cannot effect change, they are not motivated to vote.

The system of educating people about the issues each party stands for is broken. It has become a system of confrontation and maligning of the politicians in all of the other parties. That does not motivate; it simply turns people off.

Voters want a clear outline of what each party stands for and exactly how they will pay for that platform, with possible cuts to present services included. Prior to each election, that information should be mailed out to each voter by the town, province or federal government. Each candidate in municipal elections or party in provincial/ federal elections would be responsible for supplying the information.

Then every voter will have an idea of what is at stake. Bonnie Bacvar, North York
