“My wife Sharon started with the idea of building a reproduction century home from scratch, but came across a builder that had a real century home already dismantled. It is a Regency Gothic, stone cottagestyle home, true to its 1850s period,” homeowner David Baker says.
“We spent 18 months designing, repairing pieces and creating this home … we transplanted some of the original doors, windows, floors and trim work into our house. New sections of the home were custom handbuilt for a true replication. We have lived here for 28 years, and our estate-size home has been host to many parties and longterm overnight guests as our walkout finished basement has three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite, two recreation rooms, a bar and a kitchen.
“This one-of-a-kind home has modern day mechanical systems and top-of-the-line construction methods. The home’s stonework was done using traditional methods from that time period and regional granite and limestone were sourced from the foundations of four barns from Hanover, Ont.,” list- ing agent Share Sheppard says.
The home has great curb appeal with detailed trim work and a central entrance beneath a peaked roof, an arched Gothic window and a covered porch. A long drive leads to a detached garage.
Natural light floods the foyer and the front hall that has three closets and a wood floor.
The large formal dining room has wainscotting, a wood floor, awood-burning fireplace with a brick surround, four windows and an antique-style chandelier.
Highlights of the spacious kitchen include a centre island, quartz counters, wainscotting, a pantry, a wood floor, a ceramic tile backsplash and stainless steel appliances. The adjoining breakfast room has a wood floor, a double French door walkout out and windows over- looking the backyard.
The large living room, or great room, has two double French door walkouts, a wood floor, pot lights, several windows and a wood-burning fireplace with a brick surround.
A laundry room with a closet and a powder room completes the main level.

The sleeping area is outfitted with four windows, a wood floor, a wood-burning fireplace, plus a five-piece ensuite with a claw-foot soaker tub. Two secondary bedrooms have wood floors and two closets each. The fourth bedroom has its own separate hall, two closets and five-piece bathroom. This floor also has a fourpiece bathroom and an openconcept den.
