OVO may go, Drake’s coming back

- Garnet Fraser

This probably means there’s no OVO Fest this year in Toronto, but here’s an excellent consolation prize: Drake is doing two shows at the Air Canada Centre, Aug. 10 and 11, with Migos opening.

The Aubrey and the Three Amigos Tour announced Monday starts July 26 in Salt Lake City and ends Nov. 17 in Atlanta, with six dates in Canada in between: two in Toronto, two in Vancouver and single nights in Edmonton and Montreal. American Express card holders can buy tickets starting Tuesday, while the rest of us must wait until May18 to get them via Ticketmaster and Live Nation.

Toronto’s own Aubrey Drake Graham is riding high, with his single “Nice for What” topping the Billboard top 100 chart in the U.S. for four weeks; it was certified platinum in Canada within three weeks of its release. Previous summers in his hometown have, since 2010, involved a star-stuffed August concert or concerts at the Budweiser Stage featuring Drake and friends, collectively named OVO Fest after his music label.

In other concert news, the indefatigable Jordan Peterson — who appeared at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on May 3 and will be back there on May 21 — is making another Toronto appearance, on July 19 at the Sony Centre. Admirers are promised “revolutionary talks on overcoming life’s biggest obstacles, how to improve oneself, the psychology of religion, mythology and much more.” Tickets also go on sale May 18 through Live Nation and Ticketmaster.
