Sony Centre officials weren’t expecting any new problems at the downtown Toronto theatre after Sunday’s Liam Gallagher and Richard Ashcroft concert was cancelled at the last minute, disappointing fans.

“We do not anticipate any issues with our upcoming programming planned for the remainder of the week,” Grant Ramsay, spokesperson for Civic Theatres Toronto, said Monday.

Event promoter Live Nation had cited electrical issues at the centre as reason the concert was cancelled a little over an hour before the performance was supposed to be begin.

Minutes after the Twitter announce- ment, Gallagher tweeted, “Gutted about tonight’s gig brothers n sisters. Safety comes first for all of us LG x.”

In a video posted on Instagram, Ashcroft said, “Unfortunately, the concert’s been cancelled due to ‘static,’ something that I’ve never heard about, never had a concert cancelled for that, maybe outdoors when there’s water on the stage, but this is an indoor venue.”

Fans voiced their displeasure on Twitter. Many were already at the venue when they heard.

“Two years in row, I’ve paid train fare, hotel and tickets, only to have the show cancelled. I give up,” tweeted one user.

“I flew from St. John’s in Newfoundland just to see this show,” wrote another.

The English singers are currently touring North America. Their next stop is Boston on May 14.

Live Nation said refunds were available at point of purchase.
