Toronto officers allegedly consumed drugs following dispensary raid
Two Toronto police officers have been charged after a January incident where the pair allegedly consumed marijuana edibles while on duty — then called for backup. Toronto police announced Wednesday two of its own are facing one count each of breach of trust and attempting to obstruct justice stemming from an incident on Jan. 27 and 28. In a news release, police allege the pair “attempted to obstruct, pervert or defeat the course of justice” by destroying evidence. Meaghan Gray, spokesperson police, conff f for the Toronto connected to the officers’ participation in a search warrant execution at a local marijuana dispensary, but provided no other details. However, police sources told the Star the pair consumed cannabis edibles during a weekend shift, following a police raid of a St. Clair Ave. W. marijuana dispensary. Shortly after ingesting the marijuana, the officers started to hallucinate, according to sources. They called for assistance and at least one of the officers was taken to hospital, police sources told the Star. One officer was injured as a result of the call for assistance, sources said. The officers now facing charges are Const. Vittorio Dominelli, 36, and Constable Jamie Young, 35. Both were arrested Tuesday. Peter Brauti, Dominelli’s lawyer, said his client is “obviously v the allegations.” “Immediately after the incident occurred, we attempted to address the situation with the Toronto Police Service,” Brauti said Wednesday. Harry Black, lawyer for Young, could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
