Charges in cosmetic procedure death

- CLAIRE FLOODY

A Vaughan woman allegedly offering discounted cosmetic non-surgical procedures out of her home has been charged in relation to the death of a 23-year-old woman who police say died as a result of cosmetic injections.

In a press release Thursday, York Regional Police said they were called to a hospital on April 18, 2017, where they found a woman in life-threatening condition. Officers learned that non-surgical cosmetic procedures were performed on the victim inside a private residence in Vaughan. The victim succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Investigators determined the procedures involved injections of “unregulated substances into the body that are not intended for that purpose,” police said in the release. Police could not directly comment on which areas of the body had been injected. However, they did say that injecting larger areas of the body is significantly more dangerous.

York police said the accused was a registered nurse. They allege she had been working independently out of her home for several years, “offering discounted cosmetic non-surgical procedures to clients through word of mouth.”

Anna Yakubovsky-Rositsan, 40, of Vaughan is charged with criminal negligence causing death, failure to provide the necessities of life for a person under her charge, and four counts of aggravated assault.
