The Toronto Maple Leafs added depth to their forward ranks with the addition of Tyler Ennis. The 28-year-old Edmonton native signed a one-year, $650,000 (U.S.) deal with the club.

The Minnesota Wild bought out the final year of Ennis’s contract last month. Minnesota acquired him in a trade with Buffalo last summer. He had eight goals and 14 assists in 73 games and played in just one of the Wild’s five playoff games.

Ennis has 105 goals and 153 assists for 258 points in 492 NHL regular-season games.

He was a first-round pick of the Sabres (26th overall) in the 2008 NHL draft, and won gold medals with Canada at the 2009 world junior championship and the 2015 world championship. CHARGES BASELESS? The lawyer for Ottawa Senators assistant general manager Randy Lee said harassment charges against his client are “baseless.”

Attorney Paul Cambria made the comment Friday after a brief court hearing in which Lee pleaded not guilty to a second charge of harassment. Lee already had pleaded not guilty to a previous charge.

Lee is accused of making lewd comments and rubbing the shoulders of a 19-year-old male shuttle driver in May, when Buffalo was hosting the NHL rookie combine. He has been suspended by the Senators.

Cambria’s motion to dismiss the harassment charges will be argued July 20 in Buffalo city court.

The Erie County district attorney’s office will oppose the motion. BURROWS BEHIND BENCH: Forward Alex Burrows is entering the coaching ranks after announcing his retirement from the NHL as a player on Friday.

The 37-year-old has been named an assistant coach of the AHL’s Laval Rocket, the top farm club of the Montreal Canadiens.

“Alex perfectly matches the profile we were looking for,” Rocket head coach Joel Bouchard said in a statement. “In addition to being an exceptional individual, he is a very good communicator.”

The gritty Burrows, a six-footone, 197-pound left-winger from Pincourt, Que., had 205 goals, 409 points and 1,134 penalty minutes in 913 NHL games over 13 seasons with Vancouver and Ottawa. The Senators bought out his contract last week.

“When you have the passion, that’s one thing. You have to set a vision and have a plan for yourself. I feel very fortunate to have played as long as I did,” Burrows said in an interview with NHLPA.com.

Undrafted by an NHL club, Burrows put in his time in the ECHL and AHL. He worked his way into a spot on the Canucks roster late in the 2005-06 season due to an abrasive style complemented by offensive talent.

He spent parts of 11 seasons with the Canucks, establishing himself as an effective pest and earning a spot on the Canucks’ top line with superstar twins Henrik and Daniel Sedin.

Burrows had a career-high 35 goals, 32 assists and 67 points in 2009-10.
