Phoning it in? Try socializing

-

Re Solving our cellphone addiction, together, July 23 I have often noted how much time people spend looking down at their phones and never noticing or interacting with other human beings around them. I have seen people in restaurants across from one another with one or both of them looking at their cellphones. I even saw a little toddler in a waiting room looking at a phone the whole time they were there, never once interacting with anyone else around.

What could be that interesting or important that you would forget to interact with others in your life?

I saw two young people walking in a park one day, holding cellphones with their heads down. I approached them and said in a friendly tone, “Here you are in all this natural beauty and you’re missing it. The history books will depict your generation with your heads down as the Faceless Generation!” Of course it is not only the young who are addicted. It is nice to get emails and texts, but unless there is something or someone in your life that requires constant monitoring, their messages can wait until there is no one around to interact with, can’t they?

We need to break this habit of having our heads buried in our phones! Look up and have a conversation with another human being. Enjoy their expressions as they interact with you!
