Seth Rogen is lending his voice to the TTC
Actor Seth Rogen has teamed up with the TTC to battle a common but nefarious sight on the subway — nail clipping. Announcements voiced by Rogen began airing in stations and on platforms Tuesday, with topics ranging from etiquette about backpacks, and bags and feet on seats, to a general thankyou to riders for being courteous, TTC communications director Brad Ross tweeted.
Each of the12 announcements lasts about 20 seconds.
“I’ve personally been knocked by a lot of backpacks, but I was actually genuinely amazed enough people clip their fingernails and toenails on public transportation that I actually had to record a message telling them not to,” Rogen told the Star on Tuesday.
“That’s crazy to me! If I stopped one person clipping their nails on transportation, then it was more than worth my time.”
Rogen donated his time and voice to the TTC after a Twitter exchange with Toronto Councillor Norm Kelly.
“I joke this is the one good thing ever to come out of Twitter,” Rogen told the Star in a phone interview, “but it was something that kind of just started honestly like a joking conversation on Twitter and it turned into a very real thing.”
The move follows a similar offer Rogen made to TransLink in his home town of Vancouver, which launched its own etiquette campaign with Rogen last week.
The TTC’s communications director Brad Ross said the total cost for the TTC came to $2,300, which included recording, editing, airfare and hotel for Ross to go to California to record with Rogen.
“On behalf of all Toronto residents, I want to thank Seth Rogen for donating his time, his talent and his voice to these unique announcements,” Mayor John Tory said in a statement.
