Son will stand trial for mother’s 2015 murder

- LOUIE ROSELLA

A man accused of killing his mother, a prominent Mississauga businesswoman, has been ordered to stand trial.

Eric Lu, 28, the son of Teresa Hsin, who called 911 to report his mother missing two days before her body was found not far from her home in 2015, has been “committed to stand trial” on a first-degree murder charge, court records show.

Lu is scheduled to appear in Superior court in Brampton on Aug. 21, with pre-trial motions scheduled for four weeks beginning Nov. 19. Trial dates have been set for six weeks starting March 18, 2019.

Mark Dookhram, 24, who is also charged in the murder, will be back in Brampton court with pre-trial motions set to begin Nov. 19. Trial dates have been set for six weeks beginning Jan. 7, 2019. Dookhram also faces a charge of first-degree murder.

Hsin, 59, was reported missing by her son Eric two days before her body was found in April 2015 in her parked BMW in a lot on Robert Speck Parkway.

Police said the murder victim was “very high profile” and well known in Mississauga business circles.

Family friends said Hsin, founder and general manager of Relaxology Wellness Centre, a company with several locations across the GTA, and her son were “extremely close.”

He took over his mother’s business after she was killed.

Lu had been working for the company since at least 2009, according to his Facebook page, with the title chief executive officer.

Police haven’t revealed if there is a definite link between Hsin’s murder and a near-fatal stabbing in fall 2014 that left her clinging to life outside her Shipp Drive home.
